The Swedish-Irish Society is delighted to announce an exclusive preview screening for members and friends in Stockholm. KNEECAP!!! Join us for an exclusive preview screening of one of the most talked about films of 2024, Kneecap!  When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise & Liam Óg, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures. ----- Kneecap premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on 18 January, the first film in the Irish language to do so, where it won the NEXT Audience Award. Its Irish premiere at the 36th edition of the Galway Film Fleadh, won Best Irish Film, the Audience Award and the Irish Language Feature Film Award. Kneecap now has the honour of representing Ireland at the next Academy Awards. IFTA Academy CEO, Áine Moriarty said: “The Irish Academy is delighted to announce Kneecap to represent Ireland in the Oscar International Feature Film category. What a brilliantly creative powerhouse of a film, with its bold and fearless storytelling and its raw and boisterous screen performances." ----- Come and join us for an evening you won't forget! Check-in from 19:30. The film will start showing after a welcome from SIS and friends of the Society at 20:00. There is a lovely bar in Zita cinema that serves food and drinks. It'll be open before and after the film, for a mingle and any post-film craic! Please note: The film will be shown with English subtitles.
