Halloween originates from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain and Halloween is therefore celebrated a lot in Ireland. (We brought it with us when large numbers of us emigrated to the USA in the 19th and 20th centuries.)
In Ireland, we dress up and go trick-or-treating at our neighbour’s doors. We play games, tell scary stories, and gather around bonfires. We eat nuts and sweets, and a cake called barmbrack that is filled with fortune-telling trinkets (coins, rings, peas etc.)
It is a really important holiday for Irish children! So here in Sweden, we like to share with you how we do it, so you can see beyond the Americanised version of it that is most common today
We usually arrange a children's party or a ghost walk at the end of October/early November, and occasionally an event for adults too.
